E-commerce fulfillment automation

Connect barcode scanning, parcel measurement, packing verification and outbound sorting in a right-sized workflow for e-commerce fulfillment operations.

Where fulfillment operations lose time and margin

Most fulfillment problems surface at the same points: the pack bench, the outbound scale and the sort area. If any of these sound familiar, they are usually measurable and fixable one step at a time:

Wrong-item shipments

Mispicks and missing items discovered only after the customer complains, with no way to check what was actually packed.

Manual measuring and weighing

Tape measures and bathroom-style scales slow outbound and feed carriers inaccurate billing data.

Pack bench bottlenecks

Order volume spikes and the packing stations, not the pickers, become the constraint.

Claims without evidence

Claims without linked packing evidence can take longer to investigate and may be harder to resolve consistently.

Consumer-grade devices

Consumer-grade devices may be less suitable for repetitive warehouse scanning, multi-shift use and frequent drops.

Manual end-of-line sorting

Staff sorting parcels by carrier on tables while the pickup truck waits.

Connected data capture from inbound to shipping

NetRay hardware can support data capture across receive, putaway, pick, pack, measure and sort stages. Final workflow and system integration depend on your WMS, OMS and operating design:

ReceivePDA scan-in against ASN
PutawayLocation scan confirms stock
PickHandheld-guided, scan-verified
PackScan, verify, label, record video
MeasureDWS captures dims + weight
Sort & shipRoute by carrier or zone

NetRay solutions for e-commerce fulfillment

Four building blocks, deployable independently. Start where your bottleneck is:

NetRay static DWS dimension weigh scan system for e-commerce fulfillment outbound

DWS: Dimension, Weigh, Scan

Best for: outbound parcel data capture and carrier billing checks.

Capture parcel dimensions, weight and barcode data in one workflow at outbound. Accurate parcel data supports carrier billing checks and downstream sort logic. Static units suit single stations; dynamic conveyor DWS suits higher volume.

Smart Packing Station

Best for: packing traceability and wrong-item claims.

NetRay's modular packing station combines barcode scanning, label printing and W8/PackEye packing video at one bench. Item matching is handled by your WMS or verification software; W8 and PackEye record the packing process. Searchable video evidence helps review wrong-item and missing-item claims.

NetRay MC62 industrial PDA handheld for warehouse picking and receiving

PDA & Barcode Scanners

Best for: receiving, putaway, picking and stock counts.

Industrial handhelds built for repetitive scanning, warehouse Wi-Fi, device management and battery rotation.

NetRay Z-type parcel sorting system for e-commerce fulfillment outbound sorting

Parcel Sorting Systems

Best for: carrier, route or destination allocation.

Sort outbound parcels by carrier, route or zone instead of hand-sorting on tables. Configurations include straight-line crossbelt, wheel and Z-type carrier sorters, matched to the parcel mix and floor layout.

Start with one measurable bottleneck

You do not need to automate the entire warehouse at once. Start with the most measurable problem: packing disputes, manual parcel measurement, repetitive scanning or manual sorting, then expand after the workflow and data requirements are validated. Because the workstations and lines are modular, the setup reconfigures as your order profile changes.

  • → Packing verification camera + software at the busiest bench
  • → Industrial PDAs to replace phones and paper pick lists
  • → A single static DWS at outbound before going conveyor-fed
  • → Label printers at each pack station to remove the label queue

E-commerce fulfillment FAQ

When you contact NetRay, it helps to share daily order volume, SKU profile, parcel size and weight range, number of packing stations, carrier routing and your WMS/OMS environment.

What equipment should a small fulfillment center buy first?
Start with the bottleneck you can measure. For most SMB fulfillment operations that is either the pack bench (errors and claims) or outbound data capture (manual measuring). A packing-station camera, handheld PDAs or a single static DWS are common first steps. We review your order profile before recommending a starting point.
How does DWS help with dimensional-weight billing?
DWS stands for Dimension, Weigh and Scan. It captures parcel dimensions, weight and barcode data in one workflow. With parcel-level dimension and weight records you can check carrier invoices against your own captured data instead of accepting adjustments blind. Whether DWS is the right fit depends on your parcel mix and daily volume, which we review before confirming a configuration.
Can NetRay equipment integrate with our WMS or OMS?
Integration is available through configurable data outputs or API integration, subject to project requirements. Before confirming an approach we review your WMS environment, data flow and where the captured data needs to land.
How do we reduce wrong-item and missing-item shipments?
Two layers help: scan verification at the pack bench (each item scanned against the order before it goes in the box) and packing video indexed by order number, so disputes are checked against footage instead of memory. Both are part of the smart packing station.
How do we prepare for peak season without overbuying?
Modular equipment helps you add capacity in steps: an extra packing bench, additional handhelds, or a sorting line only when manual sorting becomes the constraint. We typically scope for your normal volume with a defined path to peak configuration, rather than sizing everything for the peak week.
